Prioritize Your Mental

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and as a coach, I want to give it to you straight—as an athlete, your life is not just about hustle, drive, or performance, but about something even more important…: your mental health. You train hard. You push through fatigue, setbacks, even pain. But here's the truth—if your mind isn’t right, none of it works. You can have the best body, the best strategy, the best game plan... but if your mental health is crumbling, you're playing at a disadvantage every single day.

Let me break it down for you:

Mental health is not weakness. It's not “just in your head.” It's your fuel, your clarity, your peace. When your mind is clear, focused, and supported, you show up better—for your team, your family, and yourself. Mental Health IS performance! You may be wondering what that means for you as an athlete; its simple:

  • You recover faster.

  • You communicate better.

  • You make sharper decisions under pressure.

  • You bounce back from losses and keep growing.

Check In Like You Check Stats

How do you make this practical in your life. Think about it like this - you may check our stats constantly. But how often do you check in with your emotions? Your stress levels? Your anxiety? That quiet overwhelm creeping in? Take the time to make it a part of your routine. You can:

  • Ask yourself: How am I really doing today?

  • Talk to a teammate, coach, or therapist.

  • Prioritize rest and space the same way you prioritize reps and drills.

You’re Not Alone, and You Don’t Have to Tough It Out

There’s this myth in sports—and in leadership—that you have to “man up,” “push through,” or “stay strong” no matter what. But the strongest thing you can do is say: I need help. Or even just: I’m not okay.

Mental health is not just for people in crisis. It's for all of us. It's for the high-achievers, the go-getters, the ones who carry a lot and smile through it. Taking care of your mind is a power move.

So here’s your play: Prioritize your mental health by scheduling that therapy session. Go for a walk without your phone. Breathe. Cry if you need to. Ask for support. Rest.

Because when you take care of you, everything else gets better.

Let’s stop waiting for a breakdown to start a breakthrough. Prioritize your mental health.

If this hits home, share it with someone who needs the reminder. And if you’re looking for coaching that supports your performance AND your well-being, let’s talk.
